do you remember toby keith?
If your formative years didn’t occur circa-2002 in the Southern U.S., you may not remember the country icon who made his nut off of hits such as, “I Love This Bar” and “Whiskey Girl.” You may not be savvy to his classic, “I Wanna Talk About Me,” with hard-hitting lyrics like: I wanna talk about me, wanna talk about I, wanna talk about number one, oh my me my, what I think, what I like, what I know, what I want, what I see. It’s a classic ditty that seduces your ear with catchy rhythm, but I’ve got a bone to pick with the premise.
It isn’t, actually, all that easy to talk about yourself… at least, when it comes to your business.
Do you find that sometimes, when you try to share about yourself and your business, you fumble? Whether it’s online or in-person, talking about your AMAY-ZING self and all of the AMAY-ZING things you do feels… uncomfortable. Weird. Fake. Maybe you try to sound ultra-confident, and just come off sounding like an asshole. Or, maybe you find yourself staring at the ground, rambling off an incomprehensible string of accomplishments that don’t begin to paint a clear picture of what, exactly, you do in the world.
I don’t believe that you’re “just” anything, and I don’t think you believe it, either.
There’s a reason why you do what you do, and that reason is why you are amazing at what you do. And my friend, it’s time to own it. It’s time to let the world know you’re here. It’s time to step into the light, put your expertise on blast, and call in your tribe. It’s time to let your story speak for you, because the journey that landed you here is the gauntlet that tested your mettle and made you the perfect person to serve your audience.
You just need help putting words to that journey. And that happens to be my specialty.
I’m a storyteller, gifted at shining a light on the things that make you unique in your space.
There are things about you – your deep love of the ocean, your soulful spirit, your bold personality, your addiction to Candy Crush (hey, I’m not here to judge) – that make you the only person who can do what you do in the brilliant way that you do it. You are one of a kind, my friend.
A diamond in the rough.
But (and I say this with love), you may not be the best person to write your story.
And I am someone both skilled at storytelling and foaming at the mouth to find good stories to tell. Stories like yours. Stories with some meat on their bones. Stories brimming with heart and imagination. Stories about the triumph of spirit over the obstacles that stood in your way. Stories that define the real you.
and this world needs the real you.
Keep working hard to make your mark. I’ll do the hard work of writing about it.
